The A.D.D. impacted person is part of the evolutionary process of humanity. It is time to acknowledge that these people have many gifts and insights that can help us move more clearly into the 21st century. They possess a kind of intelligence that allows them to go where we have never gone before.
What is our reaction? We complain that they are inconvenient - that they do not "fit in the box." We often decide that the best option is to medicate and try to forget them. Well, change is long over due
and many of our institutions and paradigms will need to shift in the process. That, too, is long overdue.
Managing the Gift provides an opportunity to truly understand this thing we call A.D.D. and how to utilize the gifts that accompany it.

Excerpt from the Introduction:
I remember the frustration of the parents who knew their child was not stupid and the frustration of the child who did not know how to access the intelligence he had. I remember the moment when I started to explain to him what was really going on in his brain-what it felt like, what it looked like and how it worked-and he burst into tears. I remember him begging me not to tell his parents just how different he was because they would never be able to love him if they knew.
How many times have I heard that from both children and adults-the fear, the isolation, the frustration about this thing we call Attention Deficit Disorder? How many times have I heard the confusion obscuring this thing we are quick to medicate and resistant to understand? Let's look at a few of the outstanding questions that surround Attention Deficit Disorder.
Attention Deficit Disorder (A.D.D.). What is it? Where does it come from? Did the increase and overload of information create it? Can it really be cured by diet? Is medication the only answer? Am I being a bad or neglectful parent if I do not medicate my child? Does A.D.D. have to play out negatively in my relationship? Is there any such thing as A.D.D. or is it a created condition? Is it a gift? If so why?
I will cover these and many more questions in this book. I will begin with the 'short answers." You must then read the detailed explanations later in this book. Next, I will share how I came upon my journey of doing work to help people learn how to understand and manage the gift of A.D.D.
