Review
Conor Bezane writes with the honesty, poignancy and grace of someone who has not just survived, but transcended tremendous odds with his heart and soul intact. His book opens itself up to you as a friend: a fellow traveler should you find yourself trapped in the lonely places of alienation, addiction and mental illness.
-- Gideon Yago, MTV News Anchor
In his unflinching memoir, Conor Bezane chronicles hisstruggles with bipolar disorder and addiction. The stories he tells areharrowing yet hopeful as he offers a rare glimpse into the mind of someone whoturns to alcohol and drugs in a desperate -- yet all too common -- attempt tosoothe a chemically misfiring brain. A must-read for people grappling with thedouble whammy of a mood disorder coupled with addiction -- and those who lovethem.
-- Betsy Forhan, executiveproducer, National Geographic Channel
Conor Bezane sees through the darkness with startling clarity in this powerful, unsentimental journal of descent into madness and back again. A tightly-wound memoir, the author's economy of words pays dividends time after time, the stench of crack pipes as viscerally conveyed as the ecstasy of teenage punk rock catharsis. Singing like an anthem for the "dually diagnosed," The Bipolar Addict is a porch light left on at night for those seeking shelter from the storm and against relentless headwinds trying to find their way back home again.-- Jim Fraenkel, former VP, MTV News As a person living with bipolar, I was impressed with how Conor describes the dizzying heights of mania and crushing depths of depression. Even those who have never experienced either can almost feel it through his words.-- Gabe Howard, mental health advocate and host --PsychCentral Podcast, and A Bipolar, a Schizophrenic, and a PodcastWith The Bipolar Addict, Conor Bezane fearlessly opens up about his personal demons, delivering a moving and unique memoir that recounts not only his own harrowing and deeply personal odyssey to sobriety, but celebrates, in vivid detail, the triumphs of others in recovery. The book both inspires and consoles while making a percipient argument for temperance. -- Chris Harris, True Crime and Pop Culture Journalist
