Review
"Because betrayal often underpins the experience of a parent who has been rejected by an estranged adult son or estranged adult daughter, the topic [betrayal] is on target. But it's Kenley's caring and thorough handling of the material that makes this book one that I, as a rejected parent, wholeheartedly recommend." - Review Parents of Estranged Adult Children: Help and Healing (rejectedparents.net)
From the Author
Although this may sound strange, I am fascinated by the topic of "betrayal" and about recovery from it. After the first edition of "Breaking Through Betrayal" was released in 2010, I was over-whelmed by the responses from readers. What I believed to be true is true - there are countless individuals who have been betrayed in one form or another and who are desperately wondering how to heal and move forward. "Breaking Through Betrayal" offered them the recovery tools to do so.
When it came time to write a 2nd Edition, I knew I wanted to add a new section - Betrayal and Relapse. I had come to know from first-hand experience that "relapse" is a "betrayal of oneself". I chronicled my personal decline into emotional relapse in my memoir "Mountain Air: Relapsing and Finding the Way Back...One Breath at a Time" (Loving Healing Press, Inc. 2013). However, "Mountain Air" is written as an allegory (poetic and metaphorical) and appeals to a very distinct audience. In writing the 2nd Edition, I incorporated similar recovery material to "Mountain Air" but in a completely different voice - that of "Breaking Through Betrayal" - which I think connects well with a larger audience.
As I am speaking to audiences about the new material in the 2nd Edition -Betrayal and Relapse - I often am asked, "Holli, why do you get so excited when you talk about relapse?" And I respond, "If we are willing to do the work, relapse affords us the opportunity for "self-discovery", learning why we were vulnerable in the first place and re-claiming ourselves in the process!
I hope you will take this journey with me! And, I'd love to hear form you as you "Break Through Your Betrayal: And Recover Your Peace Within".
