This book is certainly not the first nor the last one to be written on the subject of narcissists or relationships with them. Narcissists are omnipresent in today's world where self-absorption and "it's-all-about-me" culture prevail. You have all encountered and dealt with narcissists, whether you realize it or not. We live at a time where many individuals consider themselves the centre of the universe and feel entitled to literally everything. Therefore, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that toxic relationships with narcissists abound in our private and professional lives. Relationships with narcissists have been written about and analysed from almost all aspects. There is a plethora of books suggesting how to, among others: deal or cope with, defeat, kill, survive, escape, free yourself from, learn and heal from a narcissist. While this book too tackles the relationship with a narcissist, it differs from most other books in that it concerns intimate relationships only, and it approaches the matter from a slightly different angle. This book makes it predominantly about you. How you experienced the relationship with your very much loved narcissist; how you can survive the demolition such a relationship causes; how you can use this relationship as a learning and growing experience; and even how you can make a relationship with a narcissist functional. Should you decide to stay in one, of course. It is also one of the few books that suggest that narcissists are not completely without empathy, and that relationships with them are possible. The descriptions and conclusions provided in this book have been corroborated by the psychotherapeutic work I have done with clients who felt annihilated by their narcissists. More importantly, they also stem from my personal, more than a decade long, experience with a toxic narcissist. I have been to hell and back several times before I found a solution that works. Surviving a narcissist is certainly no mean feast. It takes a lot of time, energy, patience and endurance. Staying in a relationship with one requires all of that, and a lot of love and concessions.
