This book is extremely important to me. For seven years I often confused mistreatment for "love." In some way or another, though I believed I knew what I deserved, I settled for lackluster partners whose mistreatment somehow made our brief experiences together feel like something it wasn't. Each and every time I dated another monster in disguise I learned something. Which is why this book exists. Because I never imagined I'd end up in an abusive relationship. I always told myself I would know enough to leave, but emotional abuse is so covert that I didn't know I was being abused. Inside of this book is everything attempting to love the wrong people taught me in hopes that you, the reader, can benefit from my story. It's a bittersweet journey I will always be grateful for. And I hope that you will always be able tell the difference between authentic love and abuse, because sadly it isn't always that easy.
