David R. Strauser, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Community Health at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he also directs the Work and Disability Lab. He received his Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1995. He is one of six members elected to the Sloan Family Institute section on Work and Disability, received the distinguished James Garrett Distinguished Career Research Award (2011) from the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association, the National Council on Rehabilitation Education New Career Award (1997) Researcher of the Year Award (2011) and received multiple research awards from the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association and National Rehabilitation Association. In 2014 Dr. Strauser received the George N. Wright Varsity Award given to an outstanding Alumni of the Rehabilitation Psychology Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research focuses is on the career and vocational development of young adults, including young adults with cancer. Dr. Strauser is the Editor in Chief of Rehabilitation Research, Policy and Education and serves on multiple editorial boards of journals related to rehabilitation and individuals with disabilities. He is the editor of the book Career Development, Employment, and Disability in Rehabilitation: From Theory to Practice. He has authored over 100 journal articles and book chapters and is consistently recognized as an international leader regarding the career and vocational development of individuals with disabilities and chronic health conditions.
Timothy Tansey, Ph.D. Dr. Tansey received his Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Psychology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He is an associate professor in the Rehabilitation Counselor Education program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Tansey has over 20 years experience as a rehabilitation counselor, educator, or rehabilitation researcher. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in the areas of evidence-based practices in vocational rehabilitation, self-regulation and self-determination, and applying novel technology in vocational rehabilitation and rehabilitation counselor education. Dr. Tansey has extensive experience in adapting technology and utilizing social media for knowledge translation and dissemination activities. He is currently the principal investigator, co-principal investigator, or co-investigator on five federally-funded research or national technical assistance center grants from the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Labor, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (Social Security Administration and the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research). These current projects, totaling over $50 million dollars, seek to ascertain evidence-based practices in the vocational rehabilitation of youth with disabilities, identify employer practices in the recruitment, hiring, retention, and promotion of persons with disabilities, and provide technical assistance to state vocational rehabilitation toward increasing competitive, integrated employment of persons with disabilities living in areas of extreme poverty. Dr. Tansey serves on the co-editor of the Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin and on the editorial boards for Rehabilitation Research, Policy, and Education, the Journal of Vocational Rehabilitation, and the Australian Journal of Rehabilitation Counseling, as well as an ad hoc reviewer to numerous other journals.
Fong Chan, Ph.D. is a professor emeritus in the Department of Rehabilitation Psychology and Special Education, University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is also the codirector of the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Evidence-Based Vocational Rehabilitation Practices. Before joining the faculty at University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1992, he was on the faculty in the Department of Psychology at the Illinois Institute of Technology for four years and the Department of Rehabilitation Counseling Psychology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center for five years. He is a certified rehabilitation counselor, a licensed psychologist, and a fellow in the American Psychological Association. Dr. Chan has more than 35 years of experience conducting applied rehabilitation research in the topical areas of neuropsychological assessment, psychosocial interventions, demand-side employment, transition and postsecondary education, evidence-based practice, and research methodologies. Dr. Chan has published over 300 refereed journal articles and book chapters. In addition, he is the editor of four textbooks: Case Management for Rehabilitation Health Professionals; Counseling Theories and Techniques for Rehabilitation Health Professionals; Understanding Psychosocial Adjustment to Chronic Illness and Disability: A Handbook for Evidence-Based Practitioners in Rehabilitation; and Certified Rehabilitation Counselor Examination Preparation: A Concise Guide to the Foundations of Rehabilitation Counseling.
