The Little Book of Character Strengths is a colorfully illustrated poem describing the meaning of twenty-four character strengths to a child and young adult audience. The book is based upon the VIA classification of character strengths. Its bright colors and creative illustrations along with the poetry format are meant to captivate young readers. The book can be read along with adults to foster discussion of ways of developing character strengths. Adults also will benefit from the message of the book.
A stanza is devoted to each of the character strengths, such as kindness, honesty, creativity, and bravery. Each stanza contains an illustration to help clarify the meaning of the character strengths and to stimulate the imagination. The book can be read in sections allowing for in-depth discussion of character strengths and can be used as an educational tool in the classroom for character-building.
Review
"If you are looking for a read-aloud at home or in the classroom, here is a great picture book for you on social morals. Each moral trait is defined and expressed in rhyming lines and beautiful anime-like watercolor illustrations. Each trait can be read daily to inspire a child or taken in groups to help with building vocabulary and character in school. They could also be used as writing prompts to get children to think deeper. I found it to be an interesting book that could be read a page at a time or in sections. It would make a great instructional tool for the classroom or at home."- Tiffany Turner, The Indie Children's Authors Connection- crystalkeeper.wordpress.com/2018/04/25/picture-book-review-the-little-book-of-character-strengths/

"The author kindly sent me a copy of this little beauty and I am so happy I read it. As some of you might know, I loved Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls and The Little Book of Character Strengths reminded me of that. It is a lovely fast read and not only for younger readers, but also for us, adults, to be reminded of what good character strengths are and to include them in our daily lives. Also, the illustrations are so so pretty! Definitely go and check this beauty out" :-)

June's poem based onthe 24 VIA Character Strengths is a beautiful ode to all thatis good in human beings. She artfully captures the essence of the strengths andhow individuals can activate their character strengths within themselves. It would be a great poem to read each morning to start the day! Kelly AluiseCommunicationsSpecialistVIA Institute onCharacter"While reading The Little Book of Character Strengths, one quickly sees how words, attitude, and feelings play an important part in who we are, what we choose to do and how we respond to others. Without question, this would be a great book to help children during a school focus on "Character" week. This material is certainly understandable and written so a teacher could ask questions and follow up with the material. This would be a very useful tool for both the individual reader as well as to read in a group setting, followed up with a discussion of character and how a person develops both their own character and influences the characters of others around them."
