During World War II the American Office of Strategic Services (OSS) asked for a biographical sketch of Adolf Hitler to be compiled, so as to better assess the psychology of the German leader. This, it was hoped, would allow America and its allies to exert more psychological pressure on Hitler, who, by 1942, had conquered much of Europe. With the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS taking country by country, such pressure was of paramount importance to the Allied war effort. This sketch by Henry Field (Roosevelt’s anthropology expert and a member of Special Intelligence Unit set up by the White House) contains all background information available to the Allies on Hitler, and draws certain conclusions as to his behavior and motives; in the hopes of allowing Allied leaders to predict his next moves.Classified SECRET by the US government, it was only recently released to the public by the successor organization of the OSS, the CIA; in pdf form. This book is the only complete transcript in book form. It uses the table of contents as provided by the original (without pagination), cleans up the text and corrects spelling mistakes, but does not omit or edit the text, although where necessary editor’s notes have been added.
